| PERSONAL & HISTORY |

Travis Olander: SEO & Marketing Manager

"Who are you?"

I'm a nerd. I love to build and modify PCs, read horror and sci-fi novels, and watch films about architecture, science, history, and astronautics. I fly quadcopters ("FPV drones") in my spare time. It's fun and challenging, thanks to all the technical stuff: Selecting components to build a quad, putting it all together, soldering, tuning PIDs, setting up radios and comms, running simulators, and honing my skills in the air (without crashing, usually).

I'm also a dad, and spend most of my time with my daughter. She loves videogames as much as I do. We spend lots of time playing Nintendo games and building Minecraft works together on a LAN in my home office.

Lastly, I'm a military veteran. I served in the Army National Guard from 2010 to 2018 as a Fire Support Specialist, climbing the ranks to Sergeant (E5) and leading a fire support team as an FS NCO.

"How'd you get into content creation, SEO, and marketing?"

In 2008, the nerd in me led me to my first job at GameStop. Over five years, I worked my way up from Game Adviser to Shift Lead, Assistant Store Manager, and then, finally, Store Manager. I learned the basics of marketing and advertising, and began to understand the psychology of the consumer and what drives sales.

In 2014, I started my marketing and SEO caeer at Hibu, Inc., a print and digital advertising agency for small- and medium-sized businesses. I interviewed business owners across industries to understand their brands and develop their online presence. I wrote product and service copy and web content for hundreds of websites. Thanks to my performance, I was selected to work with the President of Web Products to redesign our client website product on a modern SaaS platform, and optimized and coached the content creation workflow for our Web Content teams.

In 2016, my passion for fast cars led me to Turn5, Inc., a performance automotive brand. There I wrote hundreds of product descriptions for three eCommerce sites, and developed the company's product copy SEO strategy as a Copywriter. In recognition of the quality of my writing, I was promoted to the video production team's Script Editor. I coached the team's talent to improve their script writing and performance on camera. I was offered the opportunity to present in the studio by the team's director. I tested well, and began writing and hosting my own videos.

In 2019, I chose to focus on writing and marketing, which led me to Uncommon Gear, LLC. While working as a video host, I freelanced as a Copywriter and SEO Specialist on Upwork. Uncommon Gear tapped me to be their full-time SEO Manager in 2019. There, I wrote all web content, built the company's copywriting and SEO strategies, earned the top search results for core products, grew organic search revenue, developed email marketing campaigns, onboarded new products, and conducted all-in-one video production and photography for the company's products and social channels.

In 2026, Uncommon Gear, LLC is consolidating as the owners pursue their next venture.  As the company restructures and potentially sells or sunsets, I now pursue my next opportunity to advance my career in Marketing and SEO.
